"As a big province in the production and processing of shoes and clothing, there are hundreds of shoe making enterprises in our province, and nearly 1 billion pairs of shoes are produced each year, but there has been a lack of unified product standards for a long time.

Most of the functions of a pair of shoes depend on the sole. If there is no uniform standard, it is difficult for enterprises or regulators to measure the quality of the sole produced.

You Yongyi, director of Fujian footwear product quality supervision and inspection center, who is responsible for the standard setting work, told reporters that as early as a few years ago, the industry had begun to call for the introduction of the standard of tourist soles, but at that time, due to various conditions and limits of testing ability, the plan was shallow.

It is reported that in early August, the standard drafting unit will organize experts and business representatives to convene the standard certification committee, approve the draft standard and submit it to the provincial quality and Technical Supervision Bureau for examination and approval.

"If it goes well, this standard will be formally promulgated in November this year."
