According to Xinhua News Agency on February 26th, Argentina children's wear Association recently asked the Arab government to restrict children's clothing imports from China and strengthen the protection of their related industries.

Hugo Benyaka, the chairman of the Argentina children's wear Association, quoted 25 figures as saying that the import volume of children's clothing in Argentina in 2008 was US $47 million 400 thousand, of which the children's clothing from China accounted for 78.4% of the total imports.

Ben Yucca said that during the period from 2004 to 2008, the children's clothing imported from China increased by 47 times. The production cost of Chinese children's clothing sold in the Argentina market was only 1/2 or even 1/3 of that of the Argentina manufacturers. Therefore, it has obvious price advantages, resulting in the declining share of Argentina enterprises in the children's wear market.

Ben Yaka also stressed that the "underground garment factories" in Argentina, because of the employment of "black workers" and a large number of tax evasion, were therefore very low in production costs.

The children's clothing enterprises in Argentina are facing the dual influence of imported products and underground factories.

Mr Ben Yucca appealed to the Arab government to increase restrictions on imported children's clothing, and to crack down on "underground factories" to ensure the production and employment of regular children's clothing enterprises.

Fernando Fraguio, Secretary of industry and industry of Argentina's Ministry of economic affairs, said that the Arab government will respond to the requirements of children's clothing enterprises, and at the same time require children's clothing enterprises to ensure stable employment for their employees.

In recent months, the government of Argentina has adopted a series of measures to strengthen the restrictions on imports. Some products from Brazil and China have become the focus of the Arab side's restrictions.

The World Trade Organization criticizes Argentina's trade protectionist measures which are not conducive to the challenges of the world's financial crisis through expanding trade.
