Russia Prohibits The Export Of Leather And Semi Finished Products.

Media recently reported that Dmitri Medvedev, Prime Minister of Russian Federation, signed a temporary ban on the export of leather semi manufactured goods from Russia.

The restriction period lasts for half a year, from October 1, 2014 to April 1, 2015.

The government decree will have full legal effect 30 days after the date of formal publication.

The Ministry of economic development was instructed to inform the Eurasian Economic Commission and the member states of the Customs Union about the implementation of the above restrictions, and to submit the similar interim export ban to the member countries of the customs union to the Eurasian Economic Commission for consideration.

Russia's Ministry of industry and trade has repeatedly proposed a temporary ban on export raw cowhide.

In February this year, Russia's Ministry of industry and trade again recommended reducing the export of raw materials for leather industry in Russia. In recent years, Russian leather raw material output has continued to decline, resulting in an unreasonable price increase.

Russia's domestic and international market prices of leather raw materials vary by 20-25%, which stimulated the increase in exports.

At the same time, Russia's leather and leather semi-finished products as raw materials, the shortage of leather resources exceeds 55%, while the export of leather semi-finished products exceeds 30%.
